The broth is one of the most used products in the kitchen. It consists of the liquid resulting from boiling various types of vegetables, meat or fish and is used to make soups, stir-fries or purees. There are chicken broth already prepared for sale in supermarkets but many people make it homemade and then store it in the fridge or freeze it.
Sometimes we do not know how to distinguish well if the products that we keep in the refrigerator are in good condition for consumption. How can you tell if chicken broth has gone bad?
In the case of chicken broth, you should always look at the expiration date. When you buy food in the supermarket you should try to calculate approximately the time it will take to consume a product and choose the expiration date based on it.
Once you open the chicken, smell the product. The broth generally has a light, penetrating odor. If you detect any excessive, moldy or inappropriate odor in this case, it may be in poor condition.
Keep in mind that an open chicken broth stored in the fridge will not last more than two weeks in good condition, so it is better to smell it and taste it before consuming it. Taste the broth and assess if its flavor is adequate. If it tastes strange, sour, or overly strong, it’s best to discard it. If you detect mold or a very evident color change, it means that bacteria have proliferated in it and its consumption can be dangerous. It is interesting that you put a label with the date of packaging on the products that you keep in the freezer. So you can better control their condition.
The frozen broth can last between 3 and 6 months in the freezer, depending on the efficiency of the freezer. To know if it is in optimal conditions, you must wait for it to thaw and follow the steps outlined above. Remember not to refreeze any product again once it is thawed.
