A wireless call system is only as good as the last press of a wireless call button. Therefore we would like to outline the simple maintenance required on a Dinggly wireless call system.
Clean Button Surfaces Monthly
Clean the button surface and the contacts around the button with a dry cloth every month or so. Grease and dust can leak into the gap around the button and cause problems with signals. Avoid using any sort of cleaning solution or damp cloth near the wireless call units as this can cause problems.
Keep a Battery Change Schedule
Dead batteries are the most common reason that a wireless call system fails to function. Keeping a log of when the batteries of each unit were last changed by attaching a small label to the back of each unit will help to ensure that the batteries are changed before they fail. It is generally recommended to change the batteries every six to twelve months to avoid any last minute panic when a call is required to be made.
Test the Signal Range Regularly
Every 3-6 months check the signal range by going to the far end of the area that your system needs to cover and press each button. If a receiver starts to miss calls that it used to receive, check for any new obstructions. A repositioned fridge or shelving unit can block the signal.
Check Your Receiver Placement
Make sure that the receiver for the chime or display is lined up with as few walls and as little metal as possible. For Call Buttons, see https://www.dinggly.com/products/wireless-call-buttons/.
Reset Pairing When Response Becomes Unreliable
Sometimes, even with good batteries and a good distance between the button and the receiver, a button can stop working from time to time. If this happens, a factory reset of the button and re-pairing with the receiver can solve the problem. Refer to the manual for your unit for how to do a factory reset. Typically this takes less than 2 minutes.
Know When to Replace a Unit
If a button is cracked or has been subjected to water damage then it will need to be replaced. Also, if after performing a factory reset the button is still not working then it will need to be replaced. It is always worth reading over the safe maintenance practices in the workplace, especially if you are working in a care home or healthcare setting as a missed call can be very serious.
A little routine maintenance can save a lot of problems with a wireless call system that is meant to work all the time. A few minutes a year can save you from hours of hassle.
