A CCTV Drain Survey will produce images of the internal of your pipes section by section and will highlight any problems that your pipes may have including blockages. But more importantly it will show the actual structural condition of your pipes and confirm whether they are in good working order or not.
Pipe Deformation
Is your drain pipe under load from the surrounding ground? A camera survey will highlight any pipe deformation, such as a pipe that has been flattened or is egg-shaped. This can lead to the pipe cracking or even collapse in the future.
Displaced or Open Joints
Pipes are laid in lengthwise sections joined end to end to form a long length of pipe. During a CCTV drain survey it is common for the joints to be shown to have been displaced and to be no longer in alignment. This allows groundwater to enter the drain and for soil to wash into the drain over time. This is a common problem with older clay pipework and the problem can get worse over time.
Root Ingress
Tree and shrub roots grow in the direction of moisture, and will penetrate any small gap in your pipes. The images from a CCTV drain survey will clearly show the extent of root ingress into your drains. The severity of root damage is scored to enable you to assess the urgency of clearance required.
Surface Deterioration
Spalling – where the internal surface of a pipe has started to deteriorate causing it to flake off and create a rough, eroded surface. The pipe may be made of concrete, old pitch-fibre or other similar materials and is likely to suffer from the surface of the pipe getting clogged up with debris. In addition to this, a weakened pipe wall is also at risk of failure.
Gradient and Sag
A sagging section of pipe is prone to blockage and also creates a condition where corrosion can quickly occur as the water will sit within the sagging section. The camera tilt is recorded throughout the survey so any sections of pipe that have dropped in gradient can be identified and highlighted to you in the report.
