Ordering boxes for your products seems like an easy task, until the supplier starts asking a lot of questions that you can’t answer. The best way to avoid a lot of time being wasted and a lot of money being spent is to get all of the necessary details in order before you even make the call.
Measure Internal Dimensions First
Give your supplier the internal measurements of your products, including any void fill required between them. This will enable your supplier to quote for the required size of box, which will be measured from the outside using the board thickness to calculate the external dimensions.
Match Board Grade to Product Weight
A single-wall box is typically used for items weighing less than 10kg. However, a double-wall box is often used for heavier items or those that are fragile. A supplier can advise on the best type of flute to use. B-flute is a stiff cardboard that is crush resistant. E-flute is a different type of cardboard that cuts well and produces a good quality print.
Choose Between RSC and Die-Cut Styles
For low volume orders of cardboard packaging, there is the option of using pre-glued RSC boxes. The RSC boxes are very easy to assemble by hand, as opposed to die cut flat-pack boxes which may require more setup to be able to assemble by hand. However, the die cut flat-pack boxes do fold up very quickly on a packing line.

Confirm Artwork and Order Requirements
The artwork should be supplied as a press ready PDF with a minimum of 3mm bleed. Find out the supplier’s minimum order quantity (MOQ) – it’s usually around 500 units for printed boxes. Allow time for printing and distribution – usually 2-3 weeks.
